Con Maguire separado del resto del field, los segundos nueve se convirtieron en una lucha por el segundo lugar que tuvo a múltiples contendientes. En ese esfuerzo sobresalió el argentino Gallegos, quien luego de hacer 3-bajo por la ida anotó birdies al 10, 11 y 13. Su birdie en el par-5 del 16, en donde tuvo un putt para águila desde cinco metros y medio, recortó la ventaja de Maguire a uno por pocos minutos.

“(El del 16) era un putt (para águila) en el que no podía pegarle agresivo porque tenía doble caída, así que traté de jugarlo rodado y no entró”, dijo Gallegos, cuyas esperanzas acabaron con un bogey al 17 poco después de que Maguire también hiciera birdie al 16.

Con ventaja de tres al llegar al tee del 18, Maguire cerró con bogey para irse con un título que lo catapultó al segundo lugar de la Orden de Mérito, apenas 23 puntos detrás del líder Alexandre Rocha.

“Ganar un evento en un Tour sancionado por el PGA TOUR es siempre algo grande. Con esto me coloco un paso más cerca del Korn Ferry Tour, que es una de mis grandes metas”, dijo Maguire, quien busca sumarse a su hermano menor Jack, quien compite en dicha gira desde 2016.

Gallegos por su parte salió muy complacido con un resultado que lo catapultó hasta el cuarto lugar de la Orden de Mérito. “Hoy el juego estuvo muy sólido, así que no tengo nada para decir que sea negativo, la verdad que fue una muy buena semana. Ahora toca ir con toda esta confianza a Puerto Plata y ver qué sale ahí”, dijo el jugador de 25 años que en 2018 se llevó la victoria en ese siguiente torneo de la gira que comenzará este jueves en la República Dominicana.
